A stay in Abbeyview, one of Irelands oldest rental cottages, is an anglers paradise. We are surrounded by well reputed canals, lakes and rivers renouned for the best fresh water fish in the land. This reputation has been built up over a number of years and is carefully preserved by the local angling clubs.

GAME ANGLING
The River Barrow
The Barrow headwaters provide the birthplace and home of the young trout and salmon. It flows on past the historic towns of Mountmellick and Portlarlington in series of ripples and pools where the bigger trout take up residence and provide good sport for the angler. From late spring onwards this area becomes the resting place for big salmon on their return from their sojourn to the feeding grounds in the seas round the Faroes and Greenland

The River Nore
The Nore is noted dry fly fishery with good trout, salmon and pike stocks. Around Durrow and further downstream some of the best salmon and trout angling may be found from early season onwards.

Some of the tributaries of both the Barrow and the Nore rivers provide very good trout angling, particularly in the early season. Among the better ones are the Owenass, Cushina, Slate and Stradbally Rivers on the Barrow Catchment, and the Erkina, Goul and Whitehorse Rivers along the Nore Valley.

COARSE ANGLING
The coarse angling enthusiast is well catered for in County Laois with angling available in canals, rivers and a number of scenic lakes around the county.
